Idea Behind This Logo
The purpose of Ilha Formosa 1544 is for knowledge sharing. Instead of drawing a logo, I think, a logo generated by some meaningful data makes more sense and accords with the value of this website.
Why Earthquake Dataset?
Earthquake is one of the major natural disasters in Taiwan. On September 21 in 1999, a magnitude 7.3 earthquake occurred in Jiji, Nantou, Taiwan. Thousands of people died and thousands of thousand were injured. It is probably one of the most unforgettable memories for most Taiwanese.
With the advance of technology, sometimes, we forgot how small we are in the world. Using the 1999 earthquake dataset is not only to remember the victims but also to remind us to be humble, to respect the nature God created.
